This is unfortunate. You don't like to see anyone die needlessly and just because this guy was a problem child no one would wish this on him or his family.

Hopefully he died of natural causes because it would be alot easier on all concerned, especially his family.

Yes, He had problems on the job, but assuming he died of natural causes there is no need to drag his name through the mud.

That would be an example of how not to deal with PTSD.

I assumed this would be where he'd be heading when they took his uniforms away. I guess it's an indicator when veteran Police officers commit suicide at their desks as to how their illnesses are being looked at.

Yep. Tho to be fair, PTSD is very difficult to treat. So even with all the support, they can still wind up suiciding. And the general pop also kills itself, even without PTSD. Especially older men. With cops, they just have better access to guns, so they might be more often successful.
