How much do social media play a role, when substituted for face to face contact? People are more in contact than ever, seem to get anxious if the electronic teat is turned off, but don't seem to make old fashioned face time anymore.

Also, we smoked pot when we were young, but it was good hoof down to 4th Avenue to score, and we walked everywhere. I remember how surprised I was in high school PE test when I was stronger and could run a lot longer than the supposed tough guys who used to bully me before I became cool because I got into long hair and drugs before they did. The hippy wasn't such a wimp after all.

My gut tells me this largely stems from the deterioration of the family unit.

IMO more and more kids simply aren't being raised properly, and suffer from an utter lack of necessary life skills as a result.

Well, the market demands it, so what can you do.
