And if he did, then why did he have to go through treatment, which he failed, but the psychologist/psychiatrist cannot advice some board that he is untreatable and not rehabilitatable and should not be released, EVER? Then, why BC? Was he in jail in Kelowna or something?

I believe they are able to institutionalize people after they serve their time if they are convicted of violent crimes and they believe are a great enough risk of re-offending. They just don't do it very often.

Release this guy to the care of the people who sit on the Parole Board.


Then watch how fast the system will correct itself.

It should be simple.. if he can't finish the therapy, he doesnt get out.

Not that I believe the therapy will actually do anything, it's to put a stamp in his

There are some good points to the bill, and the John Howard Society can go fuck themselves. They bitched about overcrowding in our prisons for years and then when the Conservatives nicely volunteer to build them more prisons, they start bitching about having more or their people incarcerated.

You just can't satisfy some people...........especially the advocates for criminals.

it's my opinion that serial sex offenders are the golden geese of our legal system. they are surefire money makers for lawyers and judges, and as such, are released quickly and untreated into the community so they can do what they do best: secure retainers.

Are you sure? How will the bill do that? This guy served his time, is there a provision in the bill that will force judges to give longer sentences? I thought it was just about minimum sentences, the the min sentence for sexual assault on a minor has been set at 1 year while it's 1 1/2 years for 6 plants. But if you know better, I'd be interested to hear it.

Unless you give a guy like this life without parole, he'll always be released. Since he's a serial rapist they coulda shoulda gone for habitual criminal status and locked him up indefinitely.

It has one clause for:

An increase in mandatory minimum penalties and sentences, including those for child exploitation.

So I'm assuming that this guy would have gotten at the minimum a longer sentence than he did, if the law was in place.

But you're right. When he failed to take rehabilitation seriously and continued to be a problem in jail he should have been designated a dangerous offender and kept in prison indefinately which likely have made the Citizens of Kelowna feel a little safer.

Cases like this boils my blood, I thought the system protects the innocent not coddles the victimizers. Ugh!
