Workers in the area eventually went and looked inside the vehicle and called police. The deaths are being treated as suspicious, but have not been declared homicides.
As of now theres a good picture of the SUV in the header for the Ed. Sun home page showing 10 bullet holes in the windshield. That tells me right there that they died from coincidental heart attacks, nothing suspicious at all.

It might have been an accident. They might have been parked there, having a smoke when they were accidently involved in a 21 gun salute.
I always found that to exemplify the Edmonton Police Service. A car with 2 bodies in it, littered with bullet holes, and they still are impartial enough to call it 'suspicious'.
