OTTAWA�The military has air power and firepower in Afghanistan, but providing Canadian soldiers with sufficient battery power is a multimillion-dollar concern for the country's war planners, according to an extensive defence department study.

    Any battery recharger I have seen requires a plug in, well I guesse the experts that posted in the comment section of that article don't realize things we take for granted here at home like electricity and available plug ins are not readily available out on the FOB's. lol. Maybe they should enlist and check it out for themselves

    While it sucks that the cheapest solution is heavy and dosen't work in cold weather, it is still the cheapest solution.
    Just a question though.. if you can run a coffee maker through an inverter on a LAV, you could run a battery charger also. Rechargeables are more expensive than regular batteries and it requires the vehicle for the recharges but it might save some of the hassle.

    As usual.. the solutions just add more weight and more cost.

    Geez, and I hate carrying a half dozen AAs for my digital camera! :lol:

    Sounds like it's time to get some research on cold weather battery technology going at our universities.
