My faith in humanity gets upheld with things like this:

$1:
On Wednesday, the Canadian Red Cross launched a donation page to help fund humanitarian assistance to those impacted by the flooding and landslides, which led to mass evacuations and cut off entire communities from the rest of the province.

$1:
GoFundMe has set up a centralized hub for verified fundraisers for B.C. flooding victims, which include campaigns for a number of displaced families and affected businesses.

$1:
The B.C. SPCA is also collecting donations to support its response to the floods, including emergency boarding services for pets from Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Langley and Cowichan.

Senior protection officer Eileen Drever told CTV News the SPCA is also co-ordinating with the province's Emergency Support Services to provide pet food, crates and other urgent supplies to evacuees.

$1:
In addition, the Canucks for Kids Fund has announced that proceeds from the next three 50/50 raffles – which are being held on Nov. 17, 19 and 21 – will be dedicated to flood relief.

;)

They have a unique geology. It's either low flat valleys, or steep rising rock. And you can't build on steep rock. ;)

Repairing 'unprecedented' damage to B.C.'s highways complicated by number of sites, looming winter
Engineers must decide whether to rebuild damaged infrastructure or redesign it; assessments could take weeks

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british- ... -1.6253636
There is a short video showing some of the damage from above on a couple of the washouts. I've seen more extensive video than this but it gives a general idea of the scope of repairs needed. Massive.

I think in the video I posted above, but definitely on the National last night, an emergency preparedness planner was genuinely surprised that there are no repair or mitigation strategies for the most important infrastructural corridor in Canada.

A Surrey Gurdwara has prepared over 3000 meals for the affected and paid for a helicopter to deliver them. Over 300 people showed up as a flash mob to sandbag and protect the pumping station that was threatened. Dozens of boat owners are rescuing pets and livestock....

And here's a detailed look at the Sumas Lake story from a Fraser Valley site:

DrCaleb DrCaleb:
And you can't build on steep rock. ;)

When I went to Tennessee, I stopped to watch someone building a house in the Smokey Mountains near Gatlinburg. 3' high foundation on one side, 30' feet on the other.

Even if they piled it with steel beams, in BC they still have all the falling rocks to deal with. Those will leave a mark.

Even so, the point you made is wrong, you CAN build on steep rock. PDT_Armataz_01_27

Lots more storms coming down the pipe over the next few weeks. None as severe as this one, but we didn't know how hard this one was going to hit until a couple of days before, and even then the severity was underestimated.

We're hearing all about it on CKNW Open Mouth radio. Trudeau and Horgan should have know before it happened, it's all their fault.

The Fraser River is tidal until Mission (right across river from Abby). Not much of a tsunami to wreak utter havoc all the way up there. And the soil they pump water from - how quick would it liquefy in an earthquake?
Not saying ACK_ACK PANIC NOW!!, just thiking maybe all these proposals shouldn't be totally ignored until it's too late.
- but then again this is LotusLand where it takes 30 years of committee and umpteen billion dollars to build a fucking rest area outhouse
