Well, there are a lot of factors that contribute to causes of death. Having been to a few dozen PM's I can say that cocaine is really bad for you.
I'm not saying that tasers are without risk and the RCMP as usual set a precedent for fucking things up. Their use-of-force protocol pre the fatal incident in Vancouver was a lot less controlled than Ontario's. They have now come into line with Ont which Tricks reiterated on his posting of the UOF wheel.
The US has really lax guidelines and you can't really compare Canada and the US on this one.
Remember, in Ontario the taser has been used as alternate to lethal force since 2006.

Exactly what Brock said. I don't pretend to be held on the same levels as Cops, but I do work security for massive events alongside many Officers, and we're all basically held to the same rules, and abide by the same general use of force laws. The obvious difference being we can't shoot/taser someone. But a Guard can be charged with excessive force if we decide to break someone's arm for no reason.
When I see people bitching about excessive force on Youtube or in newspapers, or even on here, it is generally because of a poor understanding of definitions and procedures by the public.

The new head of the RCMP says there's a problem. The Braidwood inquiry said there's problems. But oh no, it's just a poor understanding by the public.

The head of the RCMP has to say there's a problem. And there are issues with how the taser has been used. I disagree with Braidwood's conclusion that Dziekanski wasn't assaultive. He had just thrown shit around a room. He was aggressive, he was flailing his arms. Was it still premature? Probably. But hindsight is 20/20. And I'm not only talking about this case, I'm talking about 90% of the cases of supposed police brutality.

Like the guy kicked in the head as he's trying to lie on the ground following orders? And that cop was already up for a previous case. Like two BC cops who are in the paper being charged with their second assaults while on duty? On and on it goes. There are a lot of false accusations made against cops. There's also a lot with merit, many that are swept under the rug because there doesn't happen to be video evidence. Just like the bullshit cop shootings.

It may have been briefly alluded to in the papers down here, but we didn't get the full story. Wow.

andyt andyt: It may have been briefly alluded to in the papers down here, but we didn't get the full story. Wow. We had the same thing in Sacramento County some years ago except it was, IMHO, an act of outright homicide. Carmelo Marrero was placed in a restraint chair and then he was repeatedly tasered with what was then an experimental weapon that was NOT to be used in active duty. The man died after being electrocuted and simultaneously subjected to positional asphyxia. The County ME initially called it an accident but a private ME called it homicide. Sacramento County eventually settled the wrongful death for $750,000 and then a decade later settled the cover-up for $15 million. I suspect that far less than 5% of such cases are ever reported to the public.

I like cherry picking extreme cases of abuse too. It's really fun. I don't think anyone disagrees these people should be punished.
Just like I'm sure Bart would want a Marine who raped a woman to be punished.
Andy would want a fellow tim hortons employee who stole punished.
But keep painting entire police forces with the same brush, because I've worked with nothing but professionals.

What's funny is, those who often paint the police with that brush have have limited or no engagement with an officer ever. I, on the other hand was the victim of police misconduct back in 2002 and yet, I don't consider all officers the same. In any business, sector or walk of life you will have bad apples.

I too have met a bully with a badge, but the former and serving RCMP I know down at the Legion are nothing but good people. I reread the whole thread, and don't know where Tricks sees anyone saying the whole BC Police force are bad apples, but that might just be my propensity to not "read between the lines".

You should try it sometimes. I just did with your post and figured out that you're a "police hating a-hole".
