ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
I worked with BUNTEP teachers in northern Manitoba ....my experience was not like yours. Then again, we had a junior high teacher who graduated from U of A and she couldn't spell or add if a gun was held to her head.... Her nickname was Karla Marx, because she was one of those self hating whites.

NORTEP and SUNTEP both have put out some very good teachers. Of course the U of S has also put out some good ones. Both have also put out losers. One of the advantages of the school I worked in was that it was under local control. The school was not part of NLSD. I was warned when I went north that it would be a real hell hole because it was local control of education and they had gained the control with threats against the government (shut down the mines by blocking the bridges.) I was really surprised to find the main concern of the school board was education. Sometimes it was boring because nobody would talk about anything else.

In regards to Karla Marx, I met a few of them in my time, but only a few. Much more often I met jackass whites who had a superior attitude to the local Metis population and let it be known. In either case people like that didn't last long.
