andyt andyt:
And yet the govt has finally acted and will fine the railroads 100k a day if they don't move more grain.
So you think that the Wheat Board would have fined the RRs, if they didn't meet some quota. Starting when? Would the Wheat Board have been able to predict the cold weather and mandated the quota early?

$1:
More lies, right? And are you doubting the railways had to run shorter trains and had more breakdowns because of the cold? That's been the very reason given by the railways.
The have moved more grain than last year, which was about double the average harvest. They are predicting to move 20% more than they moved last year, and are already at 17% more that last year.

Yes the cold has limited their through put. But they are still well above average.

$1:
Lying - fuck off.

"The railroads were not moving more"
That's a false and you know it. You are lying to try and make the government look bad for the RRs not being able to move more wheat.

Don't tell me to fuck off when I point out your lies. It's not like everyone else here can't see what you said.

why did the government wait so long before it acted with threats of fines?

Back in october they were talking about gluts of grain affecting prices.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-10-2 ... ities.html

but then you have the freedom Harper gave to Farmers
from:
http://albertadiary.ca/tag/canadian-wheat-board
we have;

"Messrs. Harper and Ritz gave them farmers “freedom,” of course, as part of the government’s continuing campaign to eliminate all co-operative ventures and hand over the work they did to the for-profit, globalized corporate sector – leaving all of us a little poorer except about, oh, 1 per cent."

BRAH BRAH:

i agree, but i think there is far more to it than it for it not being moved.
I'm not blaming the Government in whole but it just seems odd.

and last night on CBC some farmer was stumped at the excuses for it being cold.
which begs one to wonder why all the excuses for it not being moved are flaky.

I call it on the banks. and their government influence.
the Farmer got fucked on this one.
and it always is the same story.

IT's just unregulated free enterprise. The railways make more money moving oil and other goods, so on their own they're not going to prioritize grain shipments. Add the cold weather that reduced train size, and grain gets left behind. With the bumper crop and cold weather, likely a problem would have occurred if the Wheatboard were still extant. But probably less of a problem and one that was acted on quicker as the Wheatboard would have prodded the govt to step in much earlier. This mess lies at the govts doorstep.

We can see that the railways have extra capacity to move grain because they've now agreed to double the amount of grain being moved. Why was this not done much earlier?

No real change in the weather and yet they are going to move more grain now.

the weather angle is flaky as hell, and sounds like an excuse that is able to be used in times of delay.
If oil and other cargo move why not grain.
Snow on tracks ..yeah ok , but that gets cleared quite fast.

No, the extreme cold means they have to run shorter trains and there are more breakdowns. Makes sense to me. But the railways also prefer to move other goods over grain, because they make more money on it, so when they already have reduced runs, they're going to leave the grain cars behind. And nobody was in a position to tell the railways otherwise. It's all Harper's fault.

Text message from my Dad, he was sitting in that meeting.

$1:
Our grain purchase and delivery system is like sask roughriders. Harper fired our quarterback. He then gave the rest of the team a huge raise. Things are not working so maybe another raise for the rest of the team would work. He does not understand that we need to hire a quaterback. So I guess we need to fire harper???

Nice to see doublethink alive and well.

Because railroads hate making money, so they just left all the grain cars behind.
