Gunnair Gunnair:

I find your response a bit ham-fisted, Andy, but I admit I knee jerked since I usually just skim through Bart's homophobic drivel.

My apologies for knee jerking and I take back my comments.

Holy shit. I really appreciate that. Thank you.

I wasn't being ham fisted, (ie ignorant of how it would be perceived) I was being a jerk, ie a troll to some extent. Figured it would draw some heat. But that was mostly for Penetrator's benefit, as per his first post. Also to see if Bart would pick up on it.

According to NPR, “In 2003, a survey of female veterans found that 30 percent said they were raped in the military. A 2004 study of veterans who were seeking help for post-traumatic stress disorder found that 71 percent of the women said they were sexually assaulted or raped while serving. And a 1995 study of female veterans of the Gulf and earlier wars, found that 90 percent had been sexually harassed.”

Interesting that while I was an MP at Ft. Hood Texas from 98-91 I dealt with 1 rape case and 2 attempted rapes while at Ft. Hood and one while deployed to Panama. None of victims were soldiers. I would like to see how the numbers were compiled by the NPR. They have a very anti military reputation and I would not find it odd if the numbers are hard to verify.

Rape numbers are always hard to verify. Brock has said that 90% of rape allegations are bullshit, but that 90% of rapes are not reported. But that 30% of women were raped sounds very high to me. Still look at our RCMP - many women coming forward now to say they were sexually harassed and nothing was done when they did complain. Wouldn't doubt that the pressure to take one for the team is even stronger in the military.

I read once that King Ferdinand of Prussia passed an edict that his officers were no longer to have sex with their mares. So looks like the US is devolving here.

Part of it. Will something like this dissuade the typically religious people from enlisting? Probably. Does that mean they will all be lazy, doubt it.

But that also has nothing to do with you being a fuck hole again. Because Canada=/= America.

Bart's argument ignores the fact that gays have been in the US military for years under the don't ask don't tell policy. His argument also misses out in my opinion because many of the senior noncom leaders I've talked to are quite open to having gays openly serving in the military. Bart's experience is likely different since his circle of buddies likely share his homophobic leanings.

I'd say that's fair, but I do think that the policy will dissuade people with homophobic leanings to give it a second thought, that's not unreasonable. Saying the military is going to go to shit is a load though.

Not a loss. Just like allowing minorities into the military probably scared off the worst of Klan members.

Agreed with the second point. Bart is just being a massive drama queen again.

Well fair enough. I was wrong, but just because Pen dragged you in doesn't mean you need to troll all military folk.

I have to admit, although I've dealt with some harassment and bigotry, I've only dealt one rape, and that was a sailor being raped by a civilian (which we didn't catch)

The military folk I deal with seem to be a bit more liberal.
