It is what it is but Reddit can't complain if others think that they're a place to avoid because they opt to not do anything when their platform is used by cretins. It's long past time to quit pretending that these basement-dwellers with their kek flags and stupid Pepe avatars are just some "harmless" young pranksters. They're not, they're willing volunteers and promoters of a movement that is atavistic and, at it's core, completely reprehensible.

I still use reddit. The fact that r/The Donald exists doesn't deter me. Reddit is like a microcosm of the internet; there's a lot of good stuff, but there's a dark side too. No one is holding a gun to your head and making you visit those subreddits.

For me, seeing what's happening at T_D is escapism. It's looking in on the animals and see what kind of stupid shit they're flinging.

That's the same argument though that Facebook and Twitter used for not doing anything about the Nazis and Russian agents that were using their sites for the similar sort of mayhem they do on Reddit. Once a site is exposed as a platform for the crazies and the corrupt they can't just gloss it over with "yeah but not everyone here is acting that way" as a cop-out for not policing their own property they way they're obligated to.

Except it's not really a platform. The vast majority of the user base of Reddit looks at the_donald as a cesspool of stupidity. 330 million people use reddit. the donald has 500k subscribers. That's .15%

And as much as the shit they spew is mind numbingly dumb, they shouldn't be shut down for it. Fake accounts like on twitter being run by bots, sure, but a lot of these people aren't bots. They're just stupid.
