Guess the days of Hunter Thompson and Bill Greider are long over because RS pretty much destroyed their legacy of quality journalism with this one botched story. Damn shame is what it is.

And here lies the crux of the problem.

Would Jackie be charged with lying to police on the two occasions she did agree to speak with them? "Absolutely not," the chief said.

Would the force ever charge someone who falsely cried rape? Well, not unless the chief prosecutor agreed, said the chief, and maybe not even then. A charge like that might have a "chilling effect" on reporting sex crimes

As long as people can accuse and malign with impunity it will continue unabated because, some people being people either seek attention or vindication against anyone or anything they dislike.

And this "chilling effect" theory is just another politically correct excuse to allow the abuse of innocent people to be perpetuated under the name of justice.

I've been through this same process as the real victims here but, for Abuse of Authority and when questioned about the allegations by 2 Military investigators I asked them what they were going to do if and when the accuser was found to be lying? Of course I got the standard nothing response till I showed them the QR&O section about false accusations against an Office or Non Commissioned Officer. Immediately they became defensive and their response changed to the standard "Chilling Effect" one which really pissed me off. So, when I politely asked them if they knew they were subverting the code of service discipline by refusing to take action against someone making false accusations I was politely asked me to leave, interview over, no more questions at this time.

Well, long story short. I and my staff were found innocent of all accusations but, when I brought up the false accusation section of QR&O's again and the damage done to our reputations, I was told by the Base Administration Officer to leave it alone because, higher powers than at the Base and Fleet Level had made the decision that allegations of this nature no matter whether proven false or not were to be treated as fact and then, if proven wrong to be quietly swept under the carpet, innocent peoples reputations not withstanding.

So, the kind of crap these kids are going through is unfortunately for both the real victims of abuse and the falsely accused pervasive in society. But, the only reason you don't hear about more people being sued or charged for false accusations is simply because of a flawed system that promotes more of the same gender bias it claims to be trying to fix.

Different scenario because a group of co-workers is much smaller than a college campus and a toxic environment at work can turn bad much faster due to the closeness of the workplace environment. Being military they couldn't do the corporate solution on you, which I've seen happen to some people I know, where the company solves the problem by finding an excuse to 'downsize' everyone and solve the problem by wiping out the department where the trouble allegedly occurred.

At some stage it's going to be cameras and microphones everywhere, moreso that it is already. Not for safety purposes, but just so workplaces and colleges can protect themselves legally when a place gets infected by either some dumb-ass frat-bro ass-grabber who refuses to control himself around women or by some paranoid feminazi chronic liar on a mission to destroy the patriarchy.
