But the only way Wynne will be able to fulfill her election promise to balance Ontario’s budget by 2017-2018 will be through massive tax hikes (for which the planning is already underway) and perhaps a one-time fire sale of provincial assets.

The two areas with the highest concentration of government paid, unionized employees who spent millions to get the Liberals back into power.

From what I have seen of Conservative governments, my reflex is to say that it would have been worse if you had voted them in (just look at Harper's debt).

Liberal government in Nova Scotia just put a wage freeze on MLAs and non unionized civil servants as well as freezing the 'public service award' which is a bonus for years of full-time work.

This government has done more positive things in a year than the previous ones have done in 20 years.

This government has done more positive things in a year than the previous ones have done in 20 years.

Well that's nice and all but we're talking about a govt in Ontario that's been the party in power for the last 13 years. Based on the Wynned Bag's campaign of "reducing the deficit" and "significant rate relief" on hydro, it appears the Ontario voter lacks even the most fundamental math skills, or a memory that's capable of recalling anything beyond last week.
And the public service unions showed just how retarded they are. Despite being told back in 2012-13 that they would NOT be seeing any increases in pay until 2017-18, they still threw their support behind the Liberals. Only to go on strike earlier this year when they didn't get the raise they were told 2-3 years ago they weren't going to get.
Never mind the decade old debacle called "Ontario's Green Energy Policy" that has syphoned billions from the taxpayers and reduced property values near the turbines by as much as 50% while giving the land owners zero legal recourse to fight the placement of the turbines.
And as one measure of proof that the Liberals in Ontario are no better than the federal Conservatives, the Ontario Liberals allowed "Big Wind" to essentially write up the regulations regarding placement and operation of their turbines. The govt simply pencil whipped them through.

Too late. The time to fix your debt would have been while things were booming - pay more taxes, pay as you go for government spending, and put money in the heritage fund. Show a little self-restraint instead of acting like children in a candy store.

Ontario didn't have that option, they got kicked in the nuts by the high oil prices that did so well for Alberta, and the resulting high dollar. As well as a "federal" government that was totally focused on oil.

It also appears that teachers are set to go on strike, again.

The same teachers that spent millions to help get the Liberals voted in.

The unions are already preparing the strike schedule for the end of April.

You're kidding right? Ontario as a manufacturing hub enjoyed the benefits of a low Canadian Dollar from 1976 till 2007. So complaining that Alberta was the only province to squander their riches and act childishly when it came to spending has more to do with your inherent hate of Alberta and its conservative politics than any real facts.

And that dollar was low for a hell of a lot longer than the oil price was high, and all Ontario did during that time was increase taxes and spending. This kind of bogus Dutch dusease argument is just more Alberta bashing from the usual Libbo/Dipper shitheads that can never admit their high tax and high spending methods ruins entire economies, just like what's happened in Ontario. There will never be a time in this country when liberals won't play the region vs region game for their own political benefit.

The manufacturing that left Ontario for the Far East (never to return) was going to leave, anyway. The high dollar accelerated the process somewhat but it was inevitable and to blame it on another prospering part of the country is a "big lie". The kind of fabrication that left were things like auto part manufacturers. There were big, middle sized and small shops all over the GTA making auto parts. All ... almost all of that is coming out of China and it will continue to do so for decades. I do business with one of those guys who is struggling along doing anything, everything that can be done to metal. They are so, so versatile and capable and they are hanging on with their teeth.
